The ancient silent city of Mdina, is somewhere you must visit when staying in Valletta. Mdina is a small fortified city, which historically was the capital of Malta. It sits on a hill top overlooking its surroundings and can be seen from miles.
Once you arrive you enter by a grand entrance built almost like a castle. It is unbelievable that people still live there inside the walls. Take a wonder around the streets seeing all the many beautiful doors on your way around. It also has its own cathedral which is one of the main sights of Mdina. The cathedral is set in the main square surrounded by buildings. It is impressively decorated.
Walking through Mdina feels like stepping into a medieval time capsule. The city's narrow, cobblestone streets are lined with palaces, churches, and noble houses that showcase a blend of Norman, Baroque, and medieval architecture.
