August - How to keep a light fitness routine on holiday

This month I have been looking into ways to keep fit whilst on Holiday. If like me you travel quite a lot and are an active person, I find that I still like to keep a little bit of a fitness routine while I am away.

Before holiday you have probably been on a health and fitness routine to get you bikini body ready, prepping yourself to feel your most amazing on holiday. As it gets closer to your holiday you up the gym sessions and healthy eating but as soon as you get on holiday with all the incredible food and drinks, the overindulgence starts. I believe we should totally switch off on holiday and fully enjoy the experience but I still like to look and feel good about myself so I tend to fit in small routines of exercise and healthy eating in where I can.

I've found the best way to keep fitness interesting and fun on holiday is to mix it up, to do things you wouldn’t normally do in your fitness routine at home so it doesn’t feel like a chore to do it while you are away. Most places you go on holiday involve either a swimming pool, a trekking route or a scenic area to explore.

Most hotels, as well as having a gym, will have scheduled some classes like Pilates, yoga, dance classes etc that you could join. I don’t normally do yoga but whilst in our hotel in Majorca, I joined the outdoor yoga class which was amazing to be outdoors in the sun. I felt great for having done it. In Positano, we walked the walk of the Gods which was high up into the hills and a great way to get some steps in whilst exploring and taking in all the views.

Swimming, depending on where you are on holiday, is one of the most obvious ways to exercise. It is a great way get your body moving whilst also enjoying the pool and the sunshine. I always like to do a morning swim while we are away. There is something very relaxing about doing lengths in the pool before everyone else has come down. I also find that after a night of food and drink I’m always ready to get into the pool the next day!

Running on holiday depending on where you are is always great, as it is also a good way to explore the place you are staying. Getting up early and taking a run along the marina, beach, or village before it wakes up is a perfect way to start the day. There is something very serene about running on holiday in the morning, it is so peaceful.

I also like to be quite mindful about what I am eating and drinking on holiday. I am all about totally enjoying yourself but not going too wild! I love a nice glass of wine at lunch time and with my evening meal but I wont spend the whole day drinking. I'm not a big drinker anyway so really enjoying the drink I'm having is more important than drinking a lot of drinks. Food wise there are so many delicious healthy options on holiday like omelettes, amazing salads and new foods to explore that you can be healthy without missing out. Don't get me wrong I also explore the deserts and ice cream everyday too.

Its just all about balance and making yourself feel your very best on holiday!
