City of Valletta

posted 20th March 2023
The amazing city of Valletta. From boutique hotels, to roof top bars and pools. Valletta is one of the most attractive and historical destinations in Europe. It has a wonderful warm climate, making it the perfect all year round destination to visit.
The streets are full of history and the architecture is breath taking. There is an abundance to do and see, its the place to be for those who love medieval cities and forts!
Hotel
On our visit, we chose to stay in the Embassy Hotel in Valette, which has quite possibly the best views from the roof top pool! It is located in the very centre of Valletta, on the doorstep of the legendary Strait Street, making it the perfect location for exploring the city. And if you like lush comfortable beds then this is the place for you.
The main attraction of the hotel, is the roof top pool which is heated all year round. Its a great place to spend hours sitting in the sunshine, taking in the amazing views of the city. The hotel gives a great reception upon arrival, with the staff on hand for your every need... and of course the welcome drinks are a bonus!
Each of the rooms in the hotel are nice and spacious. I particularly like the wall panelling and the colours used. We were pleasantly surprised with the welcome cakes and bottle of champagne waiting for us in the room.
Exploring Malta
Walking around Valetta feels like you are walking through a movie set and you can see why, so many films are shot there. The architecture is amazing and everywhere you look there is something new to discover. I was blown away by the history of the Island.
Just over the water is the three cities Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua, known as the Three Ciities of Malta. The fortified cities sit like a trio of villages in the heart of Malta directly across the Grand Harbour from Valletta. They are pieces of living history kept alive by hundreds of years of preservation. The best way to get there is to take a small water taxi from the harbour which in itself is an adventure depending on the weather!
Once you get to the other side of the water there is so much to explore.
Food and Drink
Maltese food is heavily inspired by Mediterranean and Italian cuisines. In Valetta you are spoilt for choice for food and drink around the city. There is a vast selection of amazing restaurants, with everything from sushi to delicious pasta dishes but bare in mind that you will need to book a lot of places in advance. I would highly recommend AKI for sushi lovers and its conveniently situated right next door to the hotel. The range of cocktails is also impressive.
Malta is one of those all year round places that adapts to the seasons giving you more to explore each time you visit. It is a place we know we will definitely visit again.
